Franchetti is the flagship wine of the Passopisciaro estate, a super-Etna produced from Petit Verdot and Cesanese d'Affile grapes planted on rock and volcanic ash in Contrada Guardiola.

Franchetti is a wine produced by the producer that expresses and represents the idea of wine and the personal vision of a man. The result is a wine unique in the world, of great concentration, black as the lava and volcanic smoke that flow from Etna.

With regard to the 2018 vintage, it was one of the rainiest, especially in the summer months and which therefore determined that classic tropical climate (hot, humid) of the last eight years. We were forced to do many more passes to remove the leaves, always going in stages because we did not want burns on the beans, but at the same time let them, after each pass, be crossed by the wind in order to dry quickly after each rain. Furthermore, the clusters thus exposed are totally joined and wrapped in propolis and clay.

The Cesanese reacted very well and resisted until the end, thus obtaining a wine in line with the alcohol content of the various previous vintages, with much more pronounced aromas of orange blossom and a much more developed overall aroma, while maintaining the acid structure. typical of Cesanese. The Petit Verdot was affected more by the vintage effect: the harvest took place about 10 days after the Cesanese, following the wake of the second quarter of the crescent moon, allowing us to harvest grapes in perfect sanitary conditions, with a somewhat "Bordeaux" profile for as regards the acidic and alcoholic structure, but at the same time obtaining, with careful and patient waiting, the classic and unique Mediterranean richness, expression of this variety on the rippled soil of the Etna Volcano.

As a result, we expect to obtain a shy Franchetti immediately and in its youth phase, but well-boned and solidly grounded to face and elevate itself on its aging journey, reaching distant goals in time.



Alcoholic fermentation in steel barrels for about 14 days. Aging in new French oak barrels for about 6 months and 14 months in concrete tanks. Bottling: During the waning moon of May 2020.
